The Key West International Airport has reported a significant year-over-year increase in passenger numbers, experiencing a 15.6% growth in travelers for the month of September. With approximately 1.1 million passengers using the airport, this marks one of the busiest Septembers on record for the popular Florida Keys destination.
Executive Director Richard Strickland highlighted this upward trend as a major milestone, calling it a “true sign of EYW’s position as an economic driver in the Florida Keys.” Strickland noted that September’s record-breaking performance aligns with the airport’s ongoing role in boosting the region’s tourism and supporting local businesses.
The surge in passenger volume reflects a larger trend, as the airport anticipates maintaining this momentum through the end of the year. The upcoming holiday season is expected to bring even more travelers, potentially solidifying 2024 as one of the most successful years for Key West International.
Strickland credited the airport’s success to several recent upgrades, expanded routes, and an increase in tourism interest in the area. He added that this growth underscores the need for further development to accommodate future demand and sustain Key West International Airport's role as a critical gateway to the Keys.
