Everyone is welcome to attend and join in the celebrations, which emphasize unity, equality, and reflection on Dr. King's contributions to civil rights and nonviolent activism.
This year's event aligns with longstanding traditions in Key West, where similar observances have included community picnics, music, presentations of Dr. King's speeches, giveaways, and participation from local officials, civic groups, churches, schools, and organizations. The march often features signs promoting unity and equality, with past events drawing hundreds of participants despite variable weather. As a federal holiday, city, state, and federal offices across the United States—including those in Key West—are closed today in remembrance of Dr. King. Regular business hours will resume tomorrow.
The City of Key West encourages residents and visitors to participate in the day's activities as a way to continue Dr. King's vision of building community and advancing justice through peaceful means. For any last-minute details or updates, check official city announcements.
