Key West International Airport has experienced a significant surge in passenger traffic this year, positioning itself for a potentially record-breaking 2024. According to Richard Strickland, the Executive Director of Airports for Monroe County, August saw a remarkable rise in traveler numbers, with more than 1 million passengers passing through the airport by the end of the month. This impressive figure dwarfs last year's count, which recorded 94,942 passengers for the same period.
Strickland expressed optimism about the airport’s continued growth, stating that the current trends suggest another banner year for the airport. "We're looking forward to continuing this momentum," he said, acknowledging the airport's role in supporting tourism and travel in the Florida Keys.
Key West International Airport has been steadily expanding its reach with an array of seasonal flights, and this trend is set to continue. Beginning next month, major airline carriers such as JetBlue, American Airlines, Delta, and United are expected to resume their seasonal services, further boosting the airport’s connectivity to key U.S. cities.
As Key West continues to attract tourists and seasonal visitors, the increased air traffic highlights the airport's critical role in the region's economy and underscores its capacity to handle growing demand.
