Drivers using the Card Sound Bridge in North Key Largo will see higher toll rates, according to an announcement from the Card Sound Toll Authority. The toll increase affects both SunPass users and those using Toll-By-Plate, marking a change in costs for regular commuters and travelers on Card Sound Road.

New Toll Rates OCTOBER 1

Effective immediately, the new toll rates for SunPass users on Card Sound Road are:

  • $2.08 for two-axle vehicles
  • $3.96 for three-axle vehicles
  • $1.32 for each additional axle

For Toll-By-Plate users, the updated rates are:

  • $3.12 for two-axle vehicles
  • $5.94 for three-axle vehicles
  • $1.98 for each additional axle

Additionally, those opting for Toll-By-Plate will face a $2.50 administrative fee per toll, in lieu of cash payments. Cash is no longer accepted on Card Sound Road, as the toll system has fully transitioned to electronic and plate-based billing.

The toll rate hikes are being implemented to help cover the maintenance and operational costs of the Card Sound Road and the five bridges along this vital route. Revenue from the tolls will fund essential upkeep and ensure the road remains in good condition for both locals and visitors traveling between Miami-Dade and the Florida Keys.

This toll increase is part of ongoing efforts to maintain the infrastructure of the Florida Keys, where road and bridge upkeep is crucial due to the region's unique environmental challenges. Regular maintenance ensures safety for the thousands of vehicles passing through this area annually.

Motorists are advised to keep the new rates in mind when planning their trips. With cash no longer being accepted, travelers should make sure their SunPass accounts are topped up or be prepared for the higher Toll-By-Plate fees.
