In a heartwarming turn of events, a 365-pound green sea turtle named Cooter B is back where she belongs – the ocean! Late last week, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission shared the joyous moment on social media, posting a video of Cooter B’s triumphant return to the waters off the Florida Keys.

Cooter B's adventure began in August when some sharp-eyed good Samaritans spotted her in distress. The enormous turtle had become tangled in a crab trap, leaving her unable to swim freely. With her fins caught in the netting, her chances of survival were slim—until help arrived. The passersby acted quickly, alerting wildlife authorities, who arranged for her rescue.

Cooter B was whisked away to the Turtle Hospital in Marathon, where she spent months recovering from her ordeal. The expert team at the hospital provided around-the-clock care, making sure she regained her strength and was back to her old, swimming self.

After months of tender care, Cooter B was finally strong enough to take the plunge back into the ocean. The Turtle Hospital team, along with members of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, gathered on the shore to witness the big moment. With a gentle nudge and cheers from the crowd, she made her way back into the sea, flippers gliding through the water as if she'd never been gone.

It’s not every day you see a 365-pound sea turtle make a comeback, but Cooter B's release is a reminder of the incredible impact local wildlife heroes can have. Here’s hoping she enjoys her newfound freedom, and that she avoids any more run-ins with crab traps!

If you’re ever in the Florida Keys, don’t forget to pay a visit to the Turtle Hospital, where you can meet some of Cooter B’s fellow flippered friends who are still on their own road to recovery.
